Railroad Videos

Rails Ontario Volume 1 Southwestern Ontario

80 Minutes  Narration
DVD or VHS
$25 CAD or USD

Originally released in 1992, this exciting program takes you back to the early 1990's, an especially interesting time in Canadian railroading.

We visited locations such as Windsor, London, Chatham, Sarnia, Komoka, and others to bring you a wide variety of non-stop railroading action.

Catch a glimpse of motive power rarely seen today on Canada's major railroads including MLW/Alco's, and SW1200 switch engines. During this time cabooses were being phased out of Canadian railway operations, and a number of "vans" make appearances in this program. Rails Ontario Volume 1 also includes footage of CP's former Triple Crown train at Windsor, and VIA at Walkerville station following a good dumping of snow. A GO Transit F-unit from Toronto makes an appearance too, filling in for VIA trainsets out for repairs.

While not as technically superior as my newest program, CSX's Canadian Division, this program is a nice addition to any railfan video collection, highlighting southwestern Ontario railroading at the start of the 1990's.

Screen Captures from "Rails Ontario Volume 1"

The Amtrak International Toronto-Chicago enters the former St. Clair River tunnel in Sarnia (August 1992). This tunnel has since been closed and a new one built just to the right.

The CP/NS Triple Crown train heads east on the Windsor Subdivision on this overcast August morning.

Because of a problem with its LRC trainsets, VIA had to acquire the help of Toronto's GO transit. At Chatham, F unit #907 leads VIA train #72 in April 1992.

Churning out lots of smoke, 2 SD40-2's wearing SOO paint exit the Detroit River railroad tunnel at Windsor.

With cabooses being phased out of Canadian railroading, we were lucky to catch a few still in service, such as this CN "van" just east of Sarnia.
